Busy workers, commuters and busy students lack the time to prepare food.
Design an app for Lacomida that allows users to quickly order healthy meals for delivery or pick up.
UX designer, designing an app for Lacomida from conception to delivery.
Conduct interviews, wireframing, prototyping, usability studies, accessibiliy consideration & Design
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was working adults who don’t have time to cook meals.
This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Lacomida customers, but research also revealed that time was not the only factor limiting users from cooking at home.
Other users problems included obligations, interests or challenges that make it difficult to get groceries for cooking or going to restaurant in person.

User Journey Map
Mapping Erica’s user journey revealed how helpful it would be for users to have access to a dedicated Lacomida app.
Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the app on paper ensured that the elements that made it to digital wireframes would be well-suited to address users pain points. For the home screen, I prioritised a quick and easy ordering process to help users save time.
Stars were used to mark the elements of sketch that would be used in the initial wireframe
As initial design face continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research. Easy Navigation was a key user need to address in the designs in addition to equipping the app to work with assistive technologies.
The low fidelity prototype connect the primary user flow of ordering food, so the prototype could be used in a usability study with users.
I conducted two rounds of usability studies. Findings from the first study helped guide the designs from wireframes to mockups. The second study used a high-fidelity prototype and revealed what aspects of the mockups needed refining.
Early designs allowed users to add item to cart in on click, but after usability study I added additional page to see more information about food and also customize order.
The second usability study reveal frustration with getting to chose pick up or delivery option at checkout, to fix this I made the pickup up or delivery option the first step in the flow by adding the pick up or delivery option on the homepage
The app made users feel like Lacomida really think about how to make them happy.
One quote from peer feedback:
“The made it so easy to order, customize and reorder food with a lot of payment options, I would definitely use this app to order healthy meals.”
While designing Lacomida app, I learned usability study and peer feedback are keys to a user centred design.
